Arsenal have secured their place in Friday’s Champions League quarter-final draw after a nervy last-16 second-leg tie at the Emirates Stadium which ended 1-0 to the Gunners after 120 minutes and required a penalty shootout to determine a winner.
David Raya was Arsenal’s hero as he saved two penalties, while Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice scored their spot-kicks to seal a 4-2 win over Porto in the shootout.
In the aftermath of Arsenal’s victory, Conceicao and Arteta briefly clashed on the pitch and were separated as Porto’s players applauded their supporters before heading down the tunnel.
And Conceicao has now alleged that during the game, Arteta insulted one of his family members who is dead.
When asked about their confrontation with Arteta, Conceicao said in his post-match press conference: ‘That’s not important, what Arteta says or doesn’t say.
‘During the game he turned to the bench and in Spanish, it must be a Spanish coach thing because it was the same thing with [Pep] Guardiola, he insulted my family.
‘In the end I told him to pay attention because the person he insulted is no longer with us, and I told him to worry about coaching his team, because due to individual quality he has an obligation to do more and better.’
Arteta, meanwhile, delivered a bizarre response when asked about his run-in with Conceicao on the pitch after the full-time whistle.
‘Yeah, really, really happy obviously,’ said the Arsenal manager.
‘We want more, let’s wait [to see] who do we have to play again and no comment.’
