JR Majewski, a candidate with strong opinions, has affirmed that he is pulling out of the Ohio House Republican race.
Majewski, who served in the Air Force, previously considered mulled halting his campaign earlier this week, shortly after early voting commenced in Ohio, but made his decision final in a post on Saturday.
He publicized the announcement on X, previously known as Twitter, where he attributed the “deep state” and stated that former President Trump did not request him to end his bid.
“Although I am confident of my potential to win, and had a good chance in the general election once my record was cleared, it is certain that the Deep State will oppose me by any means necessary,” Majewski said. “Even resorting to attacking my family and once again accusing me of stolen valor.”
Majewski stated that the “best way” for him to advocate for the people “who feel as though their voices are being disregarded by the DC Elite” is to “dedicate” his efforts to supporting Trump in his 2024 presidential campaign.
Majewski was the GOP candidate in 2022 when he received the endorsement of Trump, but his campaign took a downward spiral after it was revealed that he falsely claimed to have served in combat in Afghanistan. He also encountered criticism after using an ableist slur during a podcast appearance in February.
Following his entry into the race last April, with hopes to unseat Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), he withdrew in May, citing his mother’s health. Majewski later reentered the race.
The Ohio GOP primary is scheduled for March 19. The District has historically leaned Democratic, but the new congressional map has altered the outlook, providing the GOP with a better opportunity to challenge Kaptur’s position.
