'Completely incorrect' – Alan Shearer criticizes referee's decision that led to Liverpool's winning goal, leaving Nottingham Forest very angry

Alan Shearer has slammed Premier League officials after making a crucial decision 'completely incorrect' just minutes before Liverpool's thrilling goal at Nottingham Forest.

Darwin Nunez scored the winning goal in the 99th minute to secure another significant late victory for Jurgen Klopp's team.

There was a major controversy leading up to the goal. Referee Paul Tierney halted play in the 96th minute after Ibrahima Konate suffered a head injury in the Liverpool box during a Forest corner.

Callum Hudson-Odoi had the ball when play was stopped, but the ball was returned to Caoimhin Kelleher in goal for an uncontested drop ball as play resumed.

Liverpool cleared the ball upfield, and after sustained pressure from the visitors, Nunez scored the late winner.

IFAB rules indicate that Forest should have been given the drop ball after Konate was injured with Hudson-Odoi in possession with former Premier League official Mark Clattenburg stating that Liverpool benefited from a mistake by referee Tierney.

Premier League icon Shearer was one of those left puzzled by the decision, asserting that the Liverpool goal 'wouldn't have happened' if the correct decision was made.

'He's made a big mistake, Paul Tierney,' Shearer told Match of the Day. 'He's completely wrong. It's a Forest corner late on, and Konate sustains a head injury.

'He is knocked down by his goalkeeper, Kelleher, and Paul Tierney doesn't blow [straight away]; Hudson-Odoi has the ball, and then the referee blows because it's a head injury. He blows when Forest have the ball.

'What he does is he then gives the ball unchallenged to the goalkeeper, which is completely wrong and should be a Forest unchallenged drop-ball out on the wing where the ball was stopped. That's who touched it last.

'I understand the goal came one minute and 50 seconds later; the point is valid, but if you drop it where Forest should have had it, everything changes.

'Liverpool don't get the corner, and the goal doesn't happen.'
