Former President Trump is blaming President Biden for a law that might ban TikTok in the U.S. The law was approved by the House as part of a bigger foreign aid package.
Trump stated on Truth Social on Monday that Biden is to blame for the TikTok ban, especially addressing young people.
Trump's stance against a potential TikTok ban is a big change from his previous position while in office. In 2020, he tried to make TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sell its U.S. assets through an executive order, but the order was stopped by the court.
The TikTok bill, which is also linked to aid for Ukraine and Israel, will make ByteDance sell the app within about a year or face a U.S. ban.
While Biden supports the measure, Trump opposes the possible TikTok ban, claiming it would benefit Facebook.
On Monday, Trump suggested that Biden is pushing to close TikTok to benefit Facebook and harm the Republican Party.
Trump continued to state that this action by Biden is 'ELECTION INTERFERENCE' and urged people to remember this during the election, while also calling Biden a major threat to democracy.
Trump was banned from Facebook in 2021 after the Capitol riots, where many of his supporters tried to stop the election result confirmation. Before the attack, Trump had been spreading false claims about the election on social media for months.
Meta, Facebook's parent company, reinstated Trump's account last year. Trump also met with Jeffrey Yass, a major TikTok investor and GOP donor, before expressing his opposition to the ban, but denied that the meeting influenced his decision. announcing his opposition to the ban, but said the summit had nothing to do with his decision.
