Today marks Suri Cruise’s 18th birthday, signifying her transition into adulthood, making many of us feel old.
The teenager, only daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, didn’t let a bit of rain ruin her birthday festivities and was seen enjoying her special day running around New York with a pal.
Katie Holmes, who is 45 years old, had her first child with the Top Gun star, 61, in 2006, shortly before they tied the knot.
Katie made a surprising move by filing for divorce in June 2012, and shortly after, they reached a settlement, with reports suggesting she was granted full custody of their child. Suri has always had a strong bond with her mom , and while there have been questions about her relationship with her dad, who is currently filming in London, details about their split are still not public.
While Though the pair have not addressed this publicly, an insider has claimed that there is adisconnect between the Hollywood star and his youngest child.

‘He doesn’t matter to Katie or Suri, and his daughter doesn’t want to depend on him for anything. ‘She believes that she has one parent and that’s her mother.’As per reports, Tom will no longer be obligated to pay child support to his ex-wife now that Suri has turned 18, potentially cutting one of their last remaining ties.

The public was introduced to the youngster when she was a baby on the cover of Vanity Fair in 2006, but her mother has since made efforts to shield her from public attention as much as possible.
Despite this, she has allowed Suri to pursue opportunities in the entertainment industry over the years – and invited her to sing on her recent projects, Rare Objects and Alone Together.

‘I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people,’ she continued.
‘And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.
