King of Prussia District celebrates community, CHOP with block party

The King of Prussia District is hosting a block party on Sunday, April 21 to celebrate the successful fundraising efforts for the King of Prussia campus of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The block party will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the King of Prussia Town Center, 155 Village Drive, at the center’s green space and along Main Street. It signifies the conclusion of the King of Prussia District’s fundraising campaign for CHOP, which also encompasses the Middleman Family Pavilion and CHOP’s Specialty Care and Urgent Care Center.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to end our fundraising campaign for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia than by inviting families to join us for an afternoon of fun and games. CHOP has impacted the lives of many in our area, and it is a privilege to give back to a beloved resource right in our neighborhood,” Rachel Ammon, director of marketing and communications, King of Prussia District, said in a statement.

Main Street will be shut down for the event, which will include inflatable games, LEGO building, crafts, a balloon house, rescue animals from Noah’s Ark Rescue Project and Sanctuary, wandering characters, music and dance performances.

The fundraising campaign for CHOP started with King of Prussia Restaurant Week and KOP Shops for CHOP — both held March 4-15.

It is the area’s only extended dining and shopping event with a charitable angle, according to the King of Prussia District’s website — with participating restaurants and businesses donating a portion of their earnings to CHOP.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of KOP Restaurant Week; KOP Shops for CHOP was introduced in 2019.

Since its beginning, King of Prussia Restaurant Week and KOP Shops for CHOP has evolved into a community-wide fundraiser, which includes raffles, the block party and corporate fundraising — extending beyond the restaurant and retail industry in support of CHOP, the district said.

These additional elements have contributed to a steady increase in donation totals each year, from $11,500 in its first year to $76,187 in 2023. In nine years, this campaign has raised $366,311 for CHOP’s King of Prussia campus.

The April 21 block party is free, but attendees are asked to donate $5 if they’re able. Whatever is raised during the block party will be added to the total — which will be revealed during a check presentation to CHOP in May.

This is the second year for the block party. The inaugural event last April was rescheduled due to weather, and in 2022 the block party was postponed twice due to weather before being canceled.

The rain date for the block party is Sunday, April 28. If the event needs to be rescheduled, the King of Prussia District will announce on its Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/koprestaurantweek, 24 hours in advance.
