Phil Foden talked about his injury while playing for Manchester City in the thrilling draw with Real Madrid as a ‘bad dead leg’ after he left the exciting game, which ended 3-3.

The England forward scored a fantastic goal, City’s second, but had to leave the match late, replaced by Julian Alvarez with three minutes remaining.

Foden looked frustrated to be substituted, but admits that he was indeed hurt after a heavy challenge and hopes to be fit for the return leg in Manchester in eight days.

Asked by TNT Sports if he is okay, Foden said: ‘I hope so. I’ve got a bit of a bad dead leg, but I’ve got a bit of time to recover now, so hopefully I can.’

Manchester City first play Luton Town on Saturday in the Premier League, but the 23-year-old may not be risked for that one ahead of a crucial second leg against the Spaniards.

Asked about the injury, manager Pep Guardiola said: ‘It was a knock, he was grumpy with me because I made a substitution, he made a fantastic goal.’

Bernardo Silva had given City the lead in under two minutes, but goals from Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo had the home side ahead just 14 minutes into the game.

Foden’s fantastic equaliser came after 66 minutes, before Josko Gvardiol scored his first goal for the club moments later to put Guardiola’s side back ahead.

The amazing goals didn’t stop there, with Federico Valverde smashing in a volley on 79 minutes to see the game end 3-3 ahead of the second leg in Manchester.

‘What a game,’ said Gvardiol. ‘First time for me to play here at this stadium, amazing atmosphere and we take the result and look forward to the game at home.’
