Ticker: P&G recalls 8.2 million bags of Tide, Gain; Wall Street gains ground off US jobs report

Procter & Gamble is recalling over 8 million bags of Tide, Gain, Ace, and Ariel laundry detergent packets sold in the U.S. and Canada because of a problem with the child-resistant packaging of the products.

As per Friday notices from both P&G and product-safety regulators in the U.S. and Canada, the outer packaging designed to prevent easy access to the liquid laundry detergent pods can break near the zipper track, presenting serious dangers to children and others who might consume them, in addition to potential skin or eye injuries.

Wall Street gains ground off US jobs report

Stocks finished significantly higher and bond yields increased Friday as Wall Street welcomed a surprisingly strong U.S. jobs report.

The S&P 500 increased by 1.1%, recovering most of the losses from the previous day and nearing its record high set last week. The benchmark index still recorded its first weekly loss in three weeks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.8% and the Nasdaq composite gained 1.2%.

Tech companies contributed significantly to the rally. Chipmaking giant Nvidia rose 2.4% and Alphabet, Google’s parent company, rose 1.3%.

The gains were widespread, with every sector in the S&P 500 ending in positive territory.

The strong job market has also raised concerns about inflation increasing, which could delay any rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. However, Friday’s report revealed that wages only rose by a small 0.3% for the month, which reduces the upward pressure on inflation. Wall Street still anticipates the Fed to start cutting rates in June.
