William Saliba says Arsenal should not be happy with a draw against Manchester City

Arsenal defender William Saliba has stated that the north Londoners should not be content with the 0-0 draw on Sunday at Manchester City.

The two Premier League both title contenders earned one point each from the match at the Etihad, a result which keeps Liverpool at the top of the table.

Arsenal now sit second – one point ahead of third-placed City and two points behind Liverpool – as the title race heats up with just nine games remaining.

Saliba helped Arsenal keep a clean sheet against Pep Guardiola’s men as City failed to score in a top-flight home game for the first time since October 2021.

But Saliba was frustrated not to leave Manchester with all three points as he told Sky Sports: 'We cannot be satisfied when we draw, but it’s OK.

‘We learn from some games. When we cannot win, we must not lose. That’s what we did well. So, we leave with one point but we are not satisfied.

‘I think it’s more in our heads because we know they are the best team in the world.

‘We have to be focused all the game. We did well. We didn’t concede. We didn’t score, but we are happy.

‘Gabriel [Magalhaes] is good. He helps me a lot. Not only him but all the team.

‘When we lose the ball, everyone runs back. I think we all defend well and that’s good. We have to keep going like this.’

Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes were praised by pundit Micah Richards after the game, particularly for keeping Erling Haaland quiet.

‘The result is not the end of the world,’ ex-City defender Richards said. ‘I was disappointed with Man City in the final third.

‘They did a lot of great work until they got into the final third. Haaland made plenty of different runs but the link-up play was non-existent. Haaland needed to do more. Saliba and Gabriel had him in their pockets.’
