Atletico Madrid are eager to acquire Mason Greenwood this summer but are not ready to meet Manchester United's asking price for the striker.
Greenwood, 22, went from United to Getafe on loan for a season on the final day of last summer’s transfer window.
He has not played for the Premier League club since he was arrested in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behavior, and assault. All charges were dropped last February.

Atletico is one of the teams interested in the striker, who is admired by the coaching staff and senior management at the Wanda Metropolitano, according to
Mundo Deportivo. However, United’s asking price, believed to be £51.3 million (€60m), has been seen as an 'outrageous' demand by Diego Simeone’s side.
Greenwood might still have a future in Manchester.
During those talks to assess Barcelona’s interest, the Catalan giants reportedly confirmed their interest
but made it clear that his valuation placed him out of their reach. Greenwood has scored eight goals and provided five assists in his 27 appearances for Getafe this season. The Madrid club is eager to keep him for another season and is interested in another loan deal.
However, United is reportedly only focused on selling the forward if they determine he has no future in Manchester.
In February, United’s co-owner Ratcliffe said: ‘We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are.
‘Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.’
Several Spanish clubs are interested in signing the striker.
