Shinji Mikami, who is most famous for his work on Resident Evil, seems to have set up a new game development company, following his departure from Tango Gameworks.
Experienced game developer Shinji Mikami has founded a new company, but it’s not clear if it’s actually a game development studio.
Mikami, known for his time at Capcom as director on the original Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and Resident Evil 4, founded the studio Tango Gameworks in 2010. While there, he directed 2014’s The Evil Within and supervised the hiring of new, young talent.
He left the studio, which was acquired by Bethesda and subsequently by Microsoft, last year. In October on Twitter, he hinted at his next steps, writing: ‘Now that I’ve broken the spell of non-competition on myself, I guess I should get to work.’
After a new trailer for Shadows Of The Damned: Hella Remastered, a mention on the game’s website has revealed that he has now set up a new company.
According to a developer bio on the official website, it says that Mikami has ‘established KAMUY Inc.’ after leaving Tango Gameworks.
No other details about the company, or what it actually does, have been released. Mikami has not made any official announcement regarding Kamuy Inc. either.
However, it’s reasonable to assume that it will be another game development studio. In 2020, Mikami said he’d like to direct one more video game project before he retires.
‘I am getting old, and so it would be more of a matter of how much energy I have,’ he told Variety. ‘My thinking is that if I had a chance to make a game from the beginning to end that’s completely my vision, then definitely, that would be my big last project as a director. It would probably be more fitting as that ‘last game I direct’ kind of thing.’
Shadows Of The Damned: Hella Remastered is set to launch later this year on PlayStation, PC, Switch and Xbox. The original action adventure game, released in 2011, was written by Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda and produced by Mikami.
