Both big national lottery prizes are still increasing after the drawings on Monday and Tuesday. The Mega Millions prize is getting very near to an estimated $1 billion. Only five Mega Millions prizes have reached that amount before.
The Powerball prize went up again on Monday night and is now at an estimated $687 million. The next draw is tonight, Wednesday, March 20.

If there is no winner in the upcoming draws, 2024 might have its first prize of over a billion dollars, which has become more common in recent years. Powerball had a $1.765 billion prize (won by a single ticket) as recently as October 2023.Powerball and Mega Millions tickets are sold for $2 each in 45 U.S. states, as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
To play Mega Millions, choose five numbers between 1 and 70, and a sixth number between 1 and 25. If you don’t want to choose the numbers yourself, you can get a set of numbers generated for you.

No matter how lucky you are, you won’t get around paying taxes on a lottery prize.
After mandatory federal tax withholding, you’d receive about $350 million if you chose the cash option. The winning numbers will be drawn on Wednesday, March 20 at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
If there’s still no prize winner, the main prize will continue to increase.
The chances of winning the prize are about 1 in 292 million.
