In Washington, No Labels' founder Joe Lieberman said the moderate group is having a tough time finding a candidate to run for U.S. president as a third-party nominee.
Lieberman, a former Democratic senator who became an independent, mentioned that the group is discussing with a few potential candidates, but he did not reveal their names. A decision will be made in the coming weeks.
Lieberman stated in an interview on Tuesday that he believes they will find a candidate, but also admitted that it's possible they may not. This has happened before.
Several individuals who were considered as possible nominees for the group have turned down the idea. These include former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, and most recently, former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, all of whom are Republicans. Additionally, retiring Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin has also declined the opportunity.
No Labels has recently formed a 12-member panel, with Lieberman included, to recommend potential nominees.
