Karl Hein wanted to go on loan in January but Arsenal stopped him from leaving.
As Arsenal’s third-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale, Hein has not played for the club this season and has only been on the bench in five Premier League games.
The 21-year-old has only played one game for the Gunners: a 3-1 loss to Brighton in the Carabao Cup in November 2022, where his performance was heavily criticised.
He has made four appearances for the U21s this season, letting in nine goals, and previously spent six months on loan at Reading.
Hein said he could have gone on loan from Arsenal this season but the club wouldn’t allow it.
Speaking to an Estonian outlet Delfi, he was asked if he could have gone on loan in January.
'There was some interest, but the club didn’t let me this time,' Hein said.
‘I need playing time as a young goalkeeper, but right now I need to help Arsenal and that’s my responsibility and I’m happy to do it.’
While he may not be close to being first choice for his club, Hein is Estonia’s No.1 and has linked up with his national team ahead of what could be two of the biggest games in his country’s history.
Estonia take on Poland on Thursday in a Euro 2024 play-off, and if they win they’ll face either Wales or Finland for a spot at this summer’s tournament in Germany.
The Blueshirts have never qualified for a major international tournament before and Hein, who has won 27 caps since his debut in 2020, is understandably buzzing.
‘The health is fine and the form is good. I am very excited about the upcoming camp,’ he added
‘When it was confirmed that we would get such a game, it arrived immediately. It’s a big game and a big opportunity.’
