Matthew Lawrence revealed that he was requested to remove his clothes by an Oscar-winning director in order to secure a part in a Marvel film.
The 44-year-old gained fame in Mrs Doubtfire, and also appeared in Boy Meets World, Brotherly Love and Melissa & Joey over the years.
In a resurfaced interview circulating on Twitter, he shared that men in the industry were often propositioned but seldom spoke out about it.
He explained during an appearance on his Brotherly Love drinks that he had overheard male producers discussing offering jobs to women based on their appearance or relationships with them. podcastHe said, ‘I’ve been privy to all those conversations.
He acknowledged the existence of the casting couch and the industry's complicity in it.
He emphasized that men are also affected by such situations, although to a lesser extent than women.
He noted that few men had addressed this issue in the industry.
He pointed out that men also face similar situations, albeit to a lesser degree than women.
He mentioned being subtly offered significant roles many times in his life.
He lost representation because he refused to comply with the demands of a prominent Oscar-winning director who asked him to undress in a hotel room.
This incident led to his agency firing him.
Lawrence did not disclose the identity of the filmmaker or the movie he was auditioning for.
The Comebacks actor reflected on Terry Crews’ comments about being groped at a Hollywood party and his fears of retaliation after speaking out during the #MeToo movement in 2017.
He added, ‘Many male friends have similar experiences with both men and women, but there's a double standard.’
He believes that society is less accepting of such situations happening to men compared to women.
Crews previously revealed being groped by Hollywood talent agent Adam Venit at a party, initially staying silent out of fear for his career.
After witnessing the response to the #MeToo movement, sparked by women speaking out against producer Harvey Weinstein in 2016, the star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine felt the need to speak up.
‘When I returned home that first day, I told my wife my career was finished. We both knew it was. We thought, “It’s over,”’ he previously stated.
‘And you know what my wife said? She said, “You know what, we were finished after football. We were finished after everything else you were going to do. We’ll find something else to do.” And that’s the reality of what this thing is.
‘I’m an unexpected activist. Because the thing is, these things occur, and you look around and you wait for somebody else to take action and you realize it’s you.’
Crews and Venit reached an agreement to resolve a lawsuit related to the accusations in 2018.
