Local residents are very angry because their neighbor has built a 'huge' £250,000 addition in their back garden

At least two people in Thurmaston, Leicestershire, are saying they want to sell their houses because of the 'ugly' new building.

People living near a man who spent £250,000 to make his garden shed bigger are saying they had to move because of the construction.

The council agreed to Gurnam Singh, 40, building a family gym in the back garden of his semi-detached house in a quiet neighborhood in Thurmaston, near Leicester.

Local residents have said the 13ft addition is as big as a small house, an ugly sight, and 'huge'.

Equipped with running water, neighbors are worried it might also be used as living space.

Two people told MailOnline that they are getting ready to sell their homes, where they've lived for 14 to 25 years, because they think the finished building will block sunlight and invade their privacy.'

One person said: 'It is a complete eyesore and it has lowered the value of my house. Even the parish council disagreed and couldn't believe it was allowed.'

The other person added: 'I feel like I'm being forced out because of it.'

One person believes the building decreased the value of their home, while another says it's the council's fault for approving the plans in the first place.

Meanwhile, Gurnam Singh claims he didn't do anything wrong since the plans were approved by local authorities.

'I blame the owners, I blame the council. The development is a disgrace and should never have been allowed, period.'

'I have been here for 25 years and now I plan to sell, if I can find a buyer now.

Mr Singh, who is a builder himself, and his company are managing construction at the property, which he and his wife bought last year with plans to make it their 'ideal home'.

'The planning authority didn't even bother to tell me and others that it was approved.'

'If I wanted to live in a developed area, I would have bought a house in the city.'

The garden building is about 13ft tall and has been approved for use as a family gym.

Mr Singh himself says he hasn't done anything wrong by proceeding with the approved plans from the local authority.

He said: 'I don't understand why some people have a problem. We have followed all the rules.'
