Gamer lost 11 hours of progress because they took a break to use the toilet

A streamer was unsuccessful in an 11-hour Elden Ring challenge after being defeated while taking a bathroom break, showing that From Software games are never safe.

For those familiar with FromSoftware games, there’s always a concern anxiety about the inability to pause games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, if you need to step away.

One main reason for this design decision is the ability for other players to invade your game at any time, if the online feature is on, and the added stress of never really knowing if you’re safe in any given spot.

This can result in unfortunate outcomes when you have to attend to bodily needs, as recently shown by Twitch streamer Elajjaz.

During his 14th attempt at a permadeath randomised run in Elden Ring – which rearranges the placement of bosses and items and restarts completely after each death – Elajjaz left his character in the Roundtable Hold location while he went to the bathroom.

The Roundtable Hold is typically a safe place in Elden Ring, where you can converse with friendly non-playable characters and upgrade weapons, but it is possible to be invaded there by two different AI opponents. You can probably figure out what happened next.

As viewers in the chat watched, the invader quickly defeated Elajjaz’s character, as he returned only seconds later to find he had been teleported back to his last checkpoint.

‘Was there an invader in the roundtable?’ he asked the chat with a laugh. ‘I kinda vaguely remembered it as I was peeing.’

Despite losing 11 hours of progress, Elajjaz immediately started another run and seemed unaffected by the whole experience. By the end of the stream, he had begun his 17th randomised run, so he’s evidently able to endure immense frustration.

Elden Ring seems poised to regain attention once again this year, with DLC Shadow Of The Erdtree set to release on June 21.
