PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – Thousands of bobbleheads, meant to be given away for free to fans, have been taken, as reported by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The NHL team declared on social media that the shipment carrying bobbleheads of Jaromír Jágr for Thursday’s game against the San Jose Sharks was stolen after arriving in California.
The Penguins were informed by authorities that they were victims of cargo theft, and stated that they are currently working with the manufacturer and transportation companies to inform the appropriate state and federal authorities and locate the bobbleheads.
The team stated that this is an ongoing investigation and they will not provide any further comments.
“All fans at the game will get a voucher with a one-time scannable barcode that will be needed to pick up the bobblehead at a later date,” the Penguins announced on social media. “Details about the pickup location and dates will be shared once the items are found or new bobbleheads are made and available for distribution.”
In a statement, Kevin Acklin, the franchise’s president of business operations, mentioned that the “unfortunate incident contributes to the legend of Jaromir Jagr” and that the team is “eager to resolve this theft and give the prized Jagr bobbleheads to their deserving homes, with our fans.”
In another social media post on Thursday afternoon, the Penguins shared a video called “Jaromir Jagr is on the Case.” Jagr is shown in a car, securing one of his bobbleheads as he says, “Let’s go find your friends.”
The team The team retired Jágr’s No. 68 during a pregame ceremony last month. The 52-year-old Jágr, the NHL’s second all-time leading scorer, is still an active player on the team he owns in his native Czech Republic.
