Former President Trump is narrowly leading President Biden in a national poll that came out on Wednesday, a day after both men secured their party’s expected nominations for November.
A USA Today/Suffolk University poll found Trump polling at 40 percent to Biden’s 38 percent. But Biden’s approval rating and views on the economy improved, with 25 percent of those surveyed expressing potential to change their minds on who to support in November.
The poll revealed that 29 percent of voters considered inflation and the economy as their key concern, followed by inflation (24 percent) and threats to democracy (23 percent). Ten percent of voters identified abortion as their main issue.
Biden’s approval rating went up from 39 percent in a December survey to 41 percent in the one published Wednesday. The poll also discovered that 33 percent of voters believe there is an economic recovery happening, the highest level under Biden since August 2021.
The poll collected data from 1,000 registered voters from March 8-11 and had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
The USA Today poll reflects other surveys indicating a tight race shaping up between Trump and Biden. A Decision Desk HQ average of national polls suggests Trump is leading by 1.4 percentage points.
Biden has been actively campaigning after his State of the Union address, making visits to Pennsylvania, Georgia, and New Hampshire. He is scheduled to travel to Wisconsin on Wednesday and Michigan on Thursday.
