15 House Republicans voted against a bill that would make TikTok's parent company ByteDance sell the popular app or be banned in the US.
The bill, which got a lot of support from both Democrats and Republicans, had been opposed by former President Trump recently.
Even though Trump had previously promised to ban TikTok and ordered ByteDance to sell its US operations in 2020, he argued that getting rid of TikTok would benefit Facebook.
Trump stated on Monday that TikTok has both positive and negative aspects, but he believes that removing TikTok would strengthen Facebook, which he views as an adversary alongside the media.
The ex-president, who officially secured the GOP nomination on Tuesday, was banned from Facebook after the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021. His account was reinstated last year.
