Sarah Michelle Gellar was terrified after finding out her son searched for something on a friend’s phone as she is afraid he might discover Cruel Intentions.
The Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress, 46, has two children with husband Freddie Prinze Jr, 48: Charlotte, 14, and 11-year-old Rocky.
As her children grow older, she has the typical worries of a parent letting their children on social media and with internet access, along with some unique concerns that come with being in the public eye.
One of these concerns is the iconic film Cruel Intentions, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Starring Sarah with Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair, Ryan Phillippe and Joshua Jackson, when it was first released on March 5, 1999, there were rumors it was so shockingly sexual it could be banned in the United States. It revolved around a wealthy high school student played by Sarah, who dares her stepbrother to seduce the new principal’s daughter and instructs him to take another student’s virginity as payback for her boyfriend leaving her for that student.

Cruel Intentions features an incestuous relationship involving Sarah’s character and her stepbrother, a passionate kiss between Sarah and Selma, and – naturally – some incredibly mean scenes.

It’s not just Rocky: Sarah’s daughter, teenager Charlotte, was also ‘one of the last’ in her class to be allowed on social media which she ‘thought was unfair’.
But Sarah ‘explained that when your parents are public figures, there’s different rules.
‘Our rule was that she couldn’t post until she ran it by us.’

Cruel Intentions was a shocking watch when it was first released, but even more so now – that’s according to its director Roger Kumble, who believes the film wouldn’t even be made today.
'It was risky, we really approached some sensitive topics. [Sebastian] does some terrible things. But, because of Selma’s performance, and because of how she portrays these scenes – in the hands of another actress, this movie would have gone off the rails,' he said.
'It is like a little time capsule on its own. The fact that it established earlier that you’re laughing before that, so it's not swerving. That’s why the movie works in its own way right now.'
Sarah and Selma famously won the MTV Movie & TV Award for best kiss for their passionate same-sex kiss in the film, and the Buffy actress, receiving the award, joked it was 'the 'single-most awarded kiss in cinema history.'
