Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized President Biden’s State of the Union speech on Friday, saying it was very partisan and did not do much to bring the country together.
“I thought the speech was very partisan, as some commentators have said,” Kennedy told Laura Ingraham on Fox News.
“It felt more like a campaign speech for a particular group of supporters in the last two weeks of the campaign, rather than the kind of unifying and presidential address that we expect from the State of the Union,” he added. “We want a speech that inspires pride in our country, both at home and around the world.”
Kennedy joins a group of other politicians and pundits who have criticized the president’s address to Congress on Thursday, with many saying it was too political. cadre During his speech, Biden talked about Ukraine’s conflict with Russia and urged Congress to provide assistance to the country. Kennedy criticized Biden’s portrayal of the war, believing it should have been resolved by now.
“I disagree with the simplistic descriptions that President Biden has used. This is a conflict that should have been resolved,” Kennedy said. “This is not just about stopping [Russian President Vladimir Putin] from moving across Europe.”
“It is a conflict about NATO’s involvement in Ukraine, which we should not be doing,” he added. “Our top diplomats have criticized it as a mistake.”
Kennedy was pleased that the president addressed the housing crisis in his speech, but he did not agree with Biden’s proposed solution.
“One issue that he has not mentioned before that I was very happy about, which is the housing crisis in this country. The fact that young people can’t get into our home,” he said. “However, I think his solution was, in my opinion, a cynical one, which is a $10,000 gift over the next two years.”
